2016 IFBB Arctic Pro Championships
Men's 212 Bodybuilding & Women's Physique
(Anchorage, Alaska - June 11, 2016)
December 1, 2016: Held in conjunction with the NPC Arctic Muscle Fest (covered earlier on this website), this inaugural
event is part of the Olympia qualifying series of the IFBB Pro League. Northwest competitor Mark Dugdale took
top spot in Men's 212 followed by Germany's Ronny Rockel. This was also a good show for newer Pros, with Mark Sindayen, David Paterik and Joshua Thompson
bringing their 'A' game. There's a great connection between Alaska and NPC shows in the Western USA thanks in large part to promoters Shawn and Cinzia
Clapp supporting and traveling to assist with those shows, and encouraging Alaskans to compete in the Lower 48. Expect a larger Pro contingent to
participate up in Alaska in 2017. Early on, the date was set for June 24...bodes well for confidence in the growth of this show!

A nice International flavor in the Women's Physique Division with Brazil's Anne Luise Freitas sporting an amazingly tapered look to take
1st Place, followed by USA's Jodi Miller in 2nd and Chile's Geraldine Morgan in 3rd. I first met Jodi back in 2002 at NPC Jr. Nationals
back in the "film" days so really nice to see how far she's progressed since then. With friends Jeni Briscoe and Tara Ostafichuk from
Canada making the top 5, hopefully will inspire other Canadian Pros to make the trek up there in 2017 and beyond. Local favorite
Ida Litteral was a welcome sight onstage too. Great routines all around, the very graceful Olga Belyakova and can't forget the return
of former Ms. Olympia and Alaska resident Valentina Chepiga!

The impetus for this reporter to make the trek up north was to bring some positive media attention to this fledgeling show. To that extent,
Muscle Insider Magazine were kind enough to publish photos from both divisions, links below:

The competitor list (numbers) along with the final placings are on this page for reference. This page will continue to
be updated with new features to showcase the athletes with quality rather than quantity in mind. As far as 2017 goes, the
date is "available" for a return visit in the midst of a very busy 5 straight weekends of shows (and a lot of travel), will
make every effort to be there. Thank you.
