2016 Leigh Brandt Muscle Classic
Bodybuilding, Physique, Fitness, Figure & Bikini Championships
(New Westminster, B.C. - Mar. 19, 2016)
Long time BCABBA Promoters Dean and Leigh Brandt hit another home run with the Second Annual Leigh Brandt Muscle Classic.
Meticulously run from start to finish, special thanks to Digital Media Marketing Director Rey Damasco for facilitating
coverage for this event. A good mix of new comptetitors, veterans and those finding new grooves to express their fitness
identities. Foremost in that category was Women's Physique Overall Winner Kennedy Ledgerwood who went from a shapely (with
more than average muscle for the category) bikini competitor to a standout going forward in her new found niche. She also
captured the Best Poser Award for the entire show, great job!

Figure featured a good overall matchup between Masters/Open Short class winner Jasmine Foltyn and Open Tall class winner Nicole
Gyurkovits, and while Jasmine was leaner looking, the crazy shapeliness of Nicole and stylish presentation onstage proved to be
the judges' choice. Other notables included Dana Maternick taking second in Short class having moved over from Bikini.

Bikini is always incredibly competitive and this show was no exception. In the end 'B' class winner Caitlin Botterill was the
clear choice for Overall, she's fine tuned her look from her previous show. 'C' class winner Alia Dunnill caught the eye of
renowned photograher David Ford, who presented her with his 'Choice Award' which includes a great photoshoot experience
for her in the future. Among other standouts in stage presentation were Rochelle Konath, Macda Haddish and Kayla Edwards
plus the other 2 open class winners, Carly Pinchin and Vanessa Chung.
|
Bodybuilding saw some great physiques, Steve Kwasny winning Open Heavyweight and Overall. Good proportionality and a
balanced physique.
|
With the addition of the new 'Classic Physique' category, Men's Physique is finding it's place in the muscularity
spectrum, good competitors in all categories. Speaking of 'Classic Physique', the posing was definitely reminiscent
of an earlier age, nice routines performed onstage.

In closing, the show had around 190 competitors, a good start to the 2016 BCABBA competitive season.
This was a novice show, which qualifies for the BC Provincials to be held in July in Vancouver.
I'll have more as time permits, complete results are/will be posted
at the BCABBA website
and also on the British Columbia Amateur Bodybuilding Association's facebook page.
