2017 NPC Tanji Johnson Classic Bodybuilding, Physique, Fitness, Figure & Bikini Championships (Tacoma, WA - June 10, 2017) The 3rd year for this event, around 80 athletes graced the stage in multiple categories...Open, Masters, Novice, Juniors and a HERO division honoring those who've either served in the military or first responders. A nice mix of new and "seasoned" competitors, the future bodes well for the sport in Western Washington. In Bikini, Shannon Perez won both Novice and Open Overalls, a balanced look and what judges are looking for muscularity wise at this level. It's a hard division to guage as one advances to the next level. Bikini Open 'B' was won by the multi-talented Bethany Frey, who also did well in Figure with a very aesthetic look that personifies beauty and brawn, and draws the public to embrace the sport. New names to note...Elizabeth Scott had a very lean and shapely look, expect to hear from her in the future. Alaskan Amber Forshee's combination of shape and muscle tone, won the day for her in Figure. Michelle Troll had good size and conditioning as well, placing 2nd to Amber in their 'B' Open height class. The aforementioned Bethany Frey rounded up the top 3. Masters Figure Overall Champion Rubi Robles also took top honors in Women's Physique. The top 3 in Masters WPD were the same three as the Open Class per the photos linked from this page. Back to figure, other names of note included Kristin Raymond, Piper Zeno and Anita Iaquinta. There was a fair bit of overlap in Men's Bodybuilding, Classic Physique and of course in the HERO Divisions. A clear standout was Mitchell Long, a very marketable look as well. Of note was that his father also competed at this show in the Masters Class Bodybuilding.
