2016 BCABBA VanCity Showdown Bodybuilding, Physique, Figure, Fitness & Bikini Championships (New Westminster, B.C. - October 15, 2016) As the sport continues to expand in British Columbia, there's a definite demand for alternatives. The traditional (WADDA tested) competition stream addresses that. The inaugural VanCity Showdown was a level one qualifier to the BC Cup Provincial Championships. Along with the Kelowna Classic in May, top 5 in each class advance. Promoters Jennifer Randall and Corey Swiergosz of Influential Sports Inc. put on a great event with close to 80 competitors in all. They had previously put on the BCABBA Victoria Cup in 2015. Bikini always sees some very worthy placers at all levels, and this show was no exception. Open Class "B" was by far the largest. Eventual overall champion Tarah Craig emerged from here with a very much improved Richelle Seward placing second. All the stunning class winners should do well at the next level. Of note was Masters Bikini Overall winner Ann Nguyen, who took second in her Open Class as well. Men's Physique saw a very versatile and improved Alex Lorincz take the Overall Title. A great look which also netted him the Classic Bodybuilding Overall as well. From Fort St. John and coached/trained by IFBB Pro Jeni Briscoe who's Northern Classic Show has been going strong for many years now. Fitness was a welcome category at this show, Breanna Watkins had very solid gymnastics and strength moves along with a fluidity in her routine you don't see at a Novice show. Great physique too! Figure saw some new faces. Nice lines on Overall Champion Jaylen Canton, both her and runner-up in "B" Class Shauna Erdman were "on point" with their posing, a great top 2 for starters! Only one competitor in Women's Physique, Karen Dallas seemed to have fun up onstage as she usually does. Men's Bodybuilding was fairly sparse with the entries, but of note was Overall Winner Michael Pinto, winning the Junior Class as well. At only 20 years old, a good future in the sport ahead of him!
