2017 NPC Vancouver USA Natural Championships
Bodybuilding, Physique, Fitness, Figure & Bikini Championships
(Vancouver, WA - Apr. 1, 2017)
Back to start off another year of Northwest competitions is this annual event. This is the
third year for promoter Wade Lowery and his team putting on this prestigous show. The number
of athletes had close to doubled from the previous year...around 170 individuals and over 300
entries (due to multiple classes). Having Novice, etc. categories really give everyone a chance
to compete at a more level playing field and leads to lots of stage time and valuable experience
gained. Kudos to the judges...prejudging finished around 2pm.

Figure brought a wide range of looks, from very lean to a fuller yet still musclular look. In the latter was 'C' Class winner Dana Tucker, could make some
noise when further dialed in at higher level shows. The judges went with the most balanced look with Amanda Thompson eeking out a one point overall win. There were
a number of crossover competitors who also competed in Bikini. At this level there's not as much of a fine line to differentiate who's suited for what. The
bottom line was that conditioning won the day, good examples of which, were Brenna Fahey and Nicole Pope.

Bikini is always the most popular and populous category. From True Novice to Open, hardly a class without a battle for the top spots!
Whether it's proportionality, muscle or that 'look' from behind (it's what often separates close placings), a difficult choice for the
judges. In the end, Calysta Upperman had that combination which topped the field in the Open Division. Honorable mention to Desiree Franz,
Diana Layne, Trista Metz, Katherine Canty, Rachel Goldsbary, Christina Hansen, Kayla Godfrey and Svitlana Aday...and a bunch of others
who caught this photographer's attention in terms of stage presentation.

Of note were the class winners of course, whichever divisions...and among them there's always some who "own" the stage no matter what their
placing. Such was the case with True Novice 'A' Class winner Jordan Zimmerman.
Model looks and a sassy attitude onstage, this was her first show. Hopefully a bit darker tan
next time and with some refinements...the sky's the limit!
I'll have more on the show here as time permits. Official results and further information
